From 2010-2014, PLACE was responsible for the delivery of somewhereto_ in Northern Ireland. somewhereto_ is a UK-wide, Big Lottery funded project that helps young people aged 16-25 to access underused or vacant spaces. somewhereto_ creates opportunities for young people to find new platforms for their talents, build networks of peer support, and obtain skills endorsement to help them to pursue the things they love in enterprise, art, culture, and sport.
Over the four years we delivered somewhereto_, we worked with illustrators, film makers, landscape architects, graffiti artists, athletes, musicians, and designers, helping them to find and access the space they need to achieve their goals. We provided support, access to insurance, information and mentoring, funding advice, media and PR opportunities, and a connection with hundreds of other young people across the UK who have progressed their ideas through their involvement with somewhereto_.
We also created bespoke events, working in partnership with local and national partners to showcase and celebrate the best young talent across a range of activities and disciplines. We facilitated almost 600 youth-led projects that brought life and vitality back to underused spaces, including festivals in vacant shops, parkour in historic ruins, and film-making in subterranean tunnels.
Through our Vacant to Vibrant campaign, the team at PLACE will continue to use our experience and expertise to open up spaces for young people and bring creative and entrepreneurial activity to the places that need them most.
