Made of Money: The Victorian Banks of Belfast
Architectural Walking Tour
Every Saturday & Sunday in May | Book Online
Look up for Inspiration!
Before the Victorian era, banks were often housed in plain, run-of-the-mill offices. But in a clever marketing trick, many architects of banks in the 1800s took their inspiration from grand, opulent civic buildings. These new proud and imposing buildings instilled trust in the banks and transformed the skyline. Today, some are still used for banking while others, such as the majestic Merchant Hotel, have been repurposed for new uses. Though some appear slightly the worse for wear, all still reflect a confident and bustling era in Belfast's history and have had a lasting impact on the streets
This one hour walking tour departs PLACE, 40 Fountain Street (beside Boots) at 11am.
