Job Opportunity: RSUA Director

The Royal Society of Ulster Architects welcomes applications for the role of RSUA Director. This strategic role will ensure the advancement of architecture and the promotion of high standards in the industry through delivery of our strategic plan, networking and liaison with key stakeholders, management of budgets, event management, development of services and managing operations and finance in close partnership with the RSUA Council and President / Honorary Officers.




The role will appeal to individuals who have a passion for design in the built environment, a desire to see standards upheld through knowledge impartation and service development, and the ability to implement plans which will extend the influence of this important work in NI and beyond.

PLACE is seeking a Creative Assistant to work with us on an exciting upcoming project. 

Are you interested in supporting the next generation of creative entrepreneurs? Do you have ideas for innovative ways to revitalise town centres? 

We are seeking a Creative Assistant to help with the delivery of a summer festival that brings young talent to amazing spaces. Based in Antrim town centre, ‘the summer of somewhereto_’ festival is part of a network of events popping up in empty shops across the UK to provide a platform for young creatives to develop and showcase their ideas. 
Candidates will have an interest in supporting young people to reach their potential in the areas of enterprise, arts, culture, and sport. You will have experience working on live events and excellent organisational and administration skills, as well as a passion to spread the word about somewhereto_

Public Art Commission for Ballymena

Public Art Commission - Tender to commission the appointment of an artist to design, produce and install an artwork in the public realm.

Dunclug Partnership seeks expressions of interest from experienced and suitably qualified artists or design teams in developing a new public artwork. The total budget available for the artwork is up to £45,000 (inclusive of VAT).

The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 23rd May 2014.

Late submissions will not be accepted.

Volunteering opportunity this Summer: Urban Design Academy 2013

PLACE is a small but busy Charity working for better places to live, work and play across Northern Ireland. Our Volunteer Programme offers people of all ages the opportunity to be a part of the PLACE team.

We have a new opportunity for interested people to join the Urban Design Academy Volunteer Team. We expect the team will be made up of 5 volunteers. 

From 5-9 August this year, we're holding our 2nd Annual Urban Design Academy in Bangor. Young people aged 14-19 will be immersed in 5 days of architecture, urban design, public art, building visits, sketching, photography, history and more.

We're looking for volunteers to get involved in the planning, marketing and delivery of the 2013 Academy. Starting in early July, this volunteer post will give you skills in event management, education and learning activities, marketing, audience development and more.

This role is voluntary, for a 2-month period between July and September 2013, and can be full or part time (suggested 3 days per week). Out-of-pocket expenses (for spending like public transport, car parking and lunch) will be covered.

This volunteering role is particularly suited to students and graduates in built environment or education subjects (e.g. Architecture, Planning, Urban Design). However, no particular qualifications are necessary. We can only accept applications for this role from people aged 21 or over.

Deadline for applications: 5pm on Thursday 11 July 2013

Volunteers will be based at PLACE in Belfast City Centre, and there may be occasional travel to other parts of Northern Ireland, particularly to Bangor where the Academy will take place. Volunteers will be supported by PLACE Staff. Some training will be provided but we welcome applicants with the knowledge and initiative to work on their own.

PLACE have partnered with the Graduate Acceleration Programme to offer graduates the opportunity to improve their employability through mentored graduate-level work experience. The GAP scheme is delivered by Business in the Community and supported by the Department for Employment & Learning.

This is primarily a marketing and communications role with a significant element of youth engagement. You will be promoting somewhereto_, managing the somewhereto_ database, creating exciting new content for social media, liaising with young people and space holders and marketing and managing somewhereto_ events.

The somewhereto_ Project Co-ordinator will mentor you throughout the placement to help develop your skills in - event planning, project management, marketing and promotion, communication and team work, arts management and report writing.

Essential skills for this position include - excellent verbal and written communication, marketing-related 3rd level qualification, demonstrable organisational skills and a proficiency using IT equipment and software, particularly MS Office. 

Desirable requirements include - experience of the NI youth sector, access NI check, experience of documenting, evaluating, and creating reports and a proficiency across a variety of social media platforms.

To ensure we reach young people and space-holders across Northern Ireland, somewhereto_ NI would like to hear from individuals, groups, and organisations who are interested in supporting this project at the community level.


somewhereto_ is an initiative of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Legacy Project, run by Livity UK in media partnership with Channel 4 Education. Its aim is to liberate spaces for 16-25 year-olds to do the things they love within the arts, culture, and sport.

Co-ordinated in Northern Ireland by PLACE, somewhereto_ works with young people and space-holders to provide lasting impact by supporting local talent and encouraging creative use of underused spaces.

Call for submissions: weePLACE exhibition cabinet

We are seeking proposals for exhibitions in our weePLACE exhibition cabinet.

weePLACE is our mini glazed exhibition cabinet at PLACE. Through an occasional open call (usually twice a year) we invite artists, photographers, architects and anyone with an interest in the built environment to submit work for public display for a one month slot.

We're seeking new exhibits from emerging and established artists, architects, youth and community groups, film-makers and more. Work can be in any medium. The theme of the work is open, but should be broadly related to architecture, urban design, public art and/or the built environment.

PLACE Internships - Summer 2012


PLACE is a small but busy Charity working to promote quality in architecture and urban design for all of Northern Ireland. Our Internship Programme offers students, graduates and other interested people the opportunity to be a part of the PLACE team.

Current vacancies:
Urban Design Summer School: Assisting PLACE Staff with the planning, promotion and delivery of our 5-day Urban Design Summer School. (Applicants should be available for the dates of the Summer School, 6th-10th August.)

Research: Helping prepare background research for various PLACE documents, articles and projects.

Marketing and Communications: You will work with PLACE Staff on all aspects of marketing and communications, including public relations, press releases and the use of online social media and digital media to promote PLACE and facilitate discussion with the general public.

PLACE Internships are voluntary, for a minimum 2 month period between mid-June and September 2012 and can be full or part time (suggested 3 days per week). Out-of-pocket expenses (for spending like public transport, car parking and lunch) will be covered.

Closing date for applications: No later than 5pm on Friday 8th June 2012.

somewhereto_ champion call-out

PLACE and somewhereto_ NI are currently recruiting project champions to assist in the delivery of the somewhereto_ project across Northern Ireland. somewhereto_ is a movement to liberate underused, disused and empty spaces in the UK and get everyone thinking creatively about their communities. Run by Livity, in media partnership with Channel 4 Education, somewhereto_ is funded by Legacy Trust UK, creating a lasting impact from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by funding ideas and local talent to inspire creativity across the UK.

A somewhereto_ project champion will be an enthusiastic facilitator with a passion for youth community arts, and will be comfortable taking a leadership role in group settings. Experience is preferable but not essential and you will ideally be between 16 and 25 years old. Training and guidance will be provided by PLACE. Your out of pocket expenses will be covered.

This role presents an opportunity to develop new skills, meet new people, and contribute to the growing somewhereto_ movement across the UK.
