Graduate Opportunity at PLACE - Project Assistant: somewhereto_

PLACE have partnered with the Graduate Acceleration Programme to offer graduates the opportunity to improve their employability through mentored graduate-level work experience. The GAP scheme is delivered by Business in the Community and supported by the Department for Employment & Learning.

This is primarily a marketing and communications role with a significant element of youth engagement. You will be promoting somewhereto_, managing the somewhereto_ database, creating exciting new content for social media, liaising with young people and space holders and marketing and managing somewhereto_ events.

The somewhereto_ Project Co-ordinator will mentor you throughout the placement to help develop your skills in - event planning, project management, marketing and promotion, communication and team work, arts management and report writing.

Essential skills for this position include - excellent verbal and written communication, marketing-related 3rd level qualification, demonstrable organisational skills and a proficiency using IT equipment and software, particularly MS Office. 

Desirable requirements include - experience of the NI youth sector, access NI check, experience of documenting, evaluating, and creating reports and a proficiency across a variety of social media platforms.

PLACE Internships - Summer 2012


PLACE is a small but busy Charity working to promote quality in architecture and urban design for all of Northern Ireland. Our Internship Programme offers students, graduates and other interested people the opportunity to be a part of the PLACE team.

Current vacancies:
Urban Design Summer School: Assisting PLACE Staff with the planning, promotion and delivery of our 5-day Urban Design Summer School. (Applicants should be available for the dates of the Summer School, 6th-10th August.)

Research: Helping prepare background research for various PLACE documents, articles and projects.

Marketing and Communications: You will work with PLACE Staff on all aspects of marketing and communications, including public relations, press releases and the use of online social media and digital media to promote PLACE and facilitate discussion with the general public.

PLACE Internships are voluntary, for a minimum 2 month period between mid-June and September 2012 and can be full or part time (suggested 3 days per week). Out-of-pocket expenses (for spending like public transport, car parking and lunch) will be covered.

Closing date for applications: No later than 5pm on Friday 8th June 2012.

Interns will be based at PLACE in Belfast City Centre, and there may be occasional travel to other parts of Northern Ireland. Interns will be supported by PLACE Staff. There may be some elements of training provided but we welcome applicants with the knowledge and initiative to work on their own.

The Forum for Alternative Belfast are seeking 5 interns to help deliver their projects in the city.

"We intend that for four weeks there will be paid work to assist in a proposed winter school in mid March. As opportunities arise we would propose that other work could be paid on a project basis."

Internships in Restoration of Cultural Heritage

If you enjoyed the exhibition 'Revival' held at PLACE and are interested in conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, there are a number of international institutions providing internships to graduates in architecture, archaeology, art history, urban planning and engineering.

ICCROM is an intergovernmental organization, based in Rome, dedicated to the conservation of cultural heritage that aims at improving the quality of conservation practice as well as raising awareness about the importance of preserving cultural heritage. ICCROM hosts up to four interns per calendar year, each of the internships lasting normally for a period of two to six months and held in Italy.

ICOMOS, the International Council of Monuments and Sites, works for the conservation and protection of cultural heritage places. It is a network of experts that benefits from the interdisciplinary exchange of its members, among which are architects, historians,archaeologists, art historians, geographers, anthropologists,engineers and town planners.
The UNESCO World heritage centre, known mainly for the compilation of the 'World Heritage List', provides very exciting internship opportunities, around the world.

PLACE Internships: Spring 2011

The PLACE Internships Programme offers students, graduates and other interested people the opportunity to be a part of the PLACE team. Current vacancies:
Projects: Promoting public interaction within architecture and the built environment through delivery of PLACE projects such as somewhereto and Wordscape.
Marketing/Communications: Using existing PLACE marketing channels including online social media to promote PLACE activities.
The Programme is voluntary but PLACE offers a modest stipend to cover travel/lunch etc. The Programme lasts for a 3 month period and can be full or part time (minimum 3 days per week).

PLACE Internships are a unique opportunity to work in a busy but fun environment.

PLACE Internships are for minimum 2 month periods starting at the end of January 2011.

PLACE Internships - Summer 2010

PLACE Internships offer students, graduates & other interested people the opportunity to be a part of the PLACE team.

We have 3 opportunities for enthusiastic individuals in the following roles:
Architecture and Built Environment
You will work with PLACE Staff to promote public interaction within architecture and the built environment through workshops and discussions and in the area of community participation & consultation.

Cultural Administration and Programming
You will work with PLACE staff to organise and deliver events and exhibitions as part of the PLACE programme.

Marketing and Communications
You will work with PLACE Staff on all aspects of marketing and communications, including public relations, press releases and the use of online social media and new media to promote PLACE and facilitate discussion with the general public.

PLACE Internships are voluntary, for minimum 2 month periods between mid-June and September 2010 and for a minimum 3 days per week. Out-of-pocket expenses (for spending like public transport, car parking and lunch) will be covered.
